The importance of Dental Crowns
When it comes to dental crowns here at our dental centre our aim is to help you keep your teeth as long as possible.
What are Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns are a porcelain cover which is placed over the tooth. Generally, due to having a tooth which has suffered a trauma, had a large filling or root canal treatment. The dental crown is placed over the remaining tooth, this helps strengthen and protect the tooth from incurring further damage. Ceramic/porcelain dental crowns are more often used to help improve the look of a patients smile.
What is the process of having a Dental Crown fitted?
Generally, this involves two appointments. During the first appointment, the tooth will be examined and prepared for the crown.
An injection is given prior to preparing the tooth. In cases where there is little tooth left or dental caries, this will be built up so that the crown can be supported. An impression will be then taken, this is used to make the dental crown. For your information, we match the porcelain to the colour of your teeth so it is aesthetically pleasing.
The second appointment involves the fitting of the dental crown, it is bonded to the tooth structure in a way which provides added strength. Furthermore, we use specialist ceramic laboratories from around the UK and the United States for our dental crowns. Ensuring our patients receive the best quality work, which will, in turn, enhance their smiles.
