Dentists Guide – Teeth Straightening

Teeth straightening – What options are available to me?

At Simpson and mau dentists we like keep our patients informed about the options now available to them for different treatments. This week we are looking at the issue of teeth straightening and invisible braces.

Why teeth straightening?

A lot of people are born with crooked teeth. In some cases, even people who have perfectly straight teeth most of their life’s can end up with them becoming crooked with age. This can be due to tooth loss and the structure of your mouth changing over the years.

Teeth straightening can be achieved by a variety of different cosmetic dental techniques. With new technology not everyone needs to have fixed wire braces for a perfectly aligned smile.

Due to new technology braces is a socially more acceptable method for straightening teeth for teenagers, some of them find it a status symbol or cool wearing these very invisible braces.

Teeth straightening without braces is possible, using high technologically which, individually produces clear-braces that you can put on an take off yourself as many times as you just wish.

Our dentists choose to use the following methods for teeth straightening;

  • Invisalign® can help you achieve a great smile.
  • The invisible braces are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want during your treatment, you are also able to brush and floss.
  • They are very comfortable, as there is no metal to cause mouth abrasions during the treatment.
  • Invisalign invisible braces have no metal and wires, which generally means you will spend less time in our dental centre getting adjustments.
  • The invisalign system also allows you to view your own virtual treatment from start to finish. Giving you a view of what the finished result will look like.

How long does teeth straightening take?

The total treatment time averages from 9-15 months during this time the average number of aligners you will have worn during treatment will be around 18 and 30, but these can vary from case to case.

Introducing Inman Aligners

The Inman aligner is an alternative to Invisible Braces when teeth need proclining / retroclining

  • The system can give you great results using just one appliance.  Teeth are rotated, you may need to finalise with invisible aligners.
  • This system can give you less hassle and expense in a shorter period of time.
  • The Inman aligner can be removed and inserted quite easy as a retainer.
  • Over time your teeth may tend to move sometimes causing teeth to become crooked. You may think that you need braces, however with the Inman Aligner your front teeth can be guided in to position quickly and effectively in just a matter of weeks.

What is the difference between
Invisalign and the Inman aligner? Invisalign is made of a specialised plastic which uses less force therefore the treatment takes longer. The Inman Aligner incorporates tiny Nickel Titanium springs, which give a higher constant tension.   Invisalign can treat all of your teeth, whilst the Inman aligner is used for treating only the top and bottom front teeth

Introducing Clearstep

  • Clearstep  invisible braces are simple affordable clear teeth positioning trays, which will gently guide your teeth to the desired position you require.
  • Clearstep puts gentle pressure on the tooth/teeth in the direction in which you require them to move.
  • Clearstep invisible braces can be on average 3/4s the cost of other similar systems.  Clearstep is wire free, invisible, and removable. With Clearstep you can eat and even give that public speech and meet clients without embarrassment or discomfort.  All you do is remove it, brush, floss, and rinse and reinsert simple and Clearstep will do the rest.

If you require more information on our teeth straightening procedures, please contact our cosmetic dentists at our Newcastle dental centre and we will be happy to discuss the options with you in more detail.
